“Red Squirrel” is one of my best pictures. I took this picture by lying down and being real quiet, almost like a hunter. I made eye contact with the squirrel and shot the picture.

This photo really gets to me because of my struggles with addiction. The only way to explain it is that it shows me a different kind of life--a life where creatures live free, and how happy life can really be if you want it to be.

Everybody cries. They cry for the sake of things like hate or stupidity. My mom cries because of me. I guess that’s because of her pure love for me. I think it’s wrong to make someone cry, even if it’s not intentional, and that’s what this picture reminds me of. It reminds me of all the tears my mom has shed over me—tears of joy, hurt, and sorrow.

I like this photo because it was one of the first really good ones I ever took. A skink is a really crazy animal that you don’t see every day, and it’s cool that I was able to get a good picture of it.

To me, this picture shows that the river is full of energy, full of life in a constant flow. And I feel like my life is just like the river--I have all this energy, and my life is now just beginning for the first time."

it blossoms so beautiful and bright.
But sometimes it’s hard to shine
without the sunlight.
This flower is so strong
it continues to grow and grow
but it goes nowhere, as it’s pinned to the floor.

This was a day where we were all having trouble getting photos. It was really cloudy and the light was dim. So I just sat down and started looking very closely for pictures that might be hiding, and I saw this scene . . . .Patience is key not only in photography, but in life in general.
